The Power of No: Effectiveness and Self-Mastery
“If something is not a “hell, YEAH!”, then it’s a “no!”
The power of no is really a practice of effective resource utilisation. It is said the successful are very proficient at saying no. It is not only a matter of saying no to external demands to limit such strains on our resources but also a practice of saying no to the internal demands and requests. The inner voice that guides us despite our deeper wishes.
In this episode I wish to discuss my thoughts on the power of no. How it can help us better utilise our resources such as time, energy, money and thought to improve our effectiveness. And how it can also assist us on the journey towards Self-Mastery.
My book review of James Altucher’s book The Power of No: Because One Little Word Can Bring Health, Abundance and Happiness – here.
The Power of No: Because One Little Word Can Bring Health, Abundance, and Happiness by James Altucher & Claudia Altucher
Because one little Word can Bring Health, Abundance and Happiness
James and Claudia have written this great and easy to read little book on how the power of using NO can have dramatic affect on your life and bring with it greater health, abundance and happiness.
It certainly has made me reflect on my own situation and how by using the word ‘No’ more in my life may give me great fulfilment and satisfaction.
I believe that the power in saying yes is just as important however as they elude in their book is that when you truly unleash the power to say ‘no’, your ‘yes’ will be much more powerful and meaningful and one that opens countless opportunities.
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle
After countless referrals and recommendations I was drawn to this book and figured it must be so rich of goodness, meaning and spiritual learning’s that I simply must read it. It was a challenging read as there is simply so much depth to his messages you simply have to mull over each of his teachings paragraph after paragraph. Yet the message is simple and I can see why the book has reached so many people and had such great impact on so many lives.
While the concept of the power of now or living in the now may not be new or may even be viewed as simple, Tolle packs this books with messages, teachings and inspirational ideas that will sure make you question your everything to a higher and more spiritual level. This is not a religious book although at times I did question it. (more…)

Seven Reasons Not to Wait

“Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.” William Arthur Ward
Have you ever sat waiting for a bus that never comes?
How long before you act, change plans, attempt to solve the problem you face? Or do you simply continue to wait?
If you’re waiting for things to happen in life you may be waiting for a very long time. It is our responsibility to create the change we wish to see, both in ourselves and in the world. No one else will do it for us. The outcomes we desire and the impact we wish to have in the world will come in acting, not in waiting. (more…)

There Is Nothing Wrong With You!
By Leigh Martinuzzi
The world is in perfect order. Everyone else and everything else seems to be great. Then we look inwardly. “My life sucks!” We get that feeling of irrelevance. Our perspective becomes warped. We begin to believe there is truly something wrong with us.
I believe that is was Jordan Peterson who put it so beautifully in his book, 12 Rules For Life, “there is nothing wrong with you!” At least that is where I believe I received the inspiration to write this article. (more…)

The Future & Tech
In this interview, I speak with Futurist Matt Ward about Exponential Technologies and Where We are Headed. People talk about AI and blockchain, Crispr and VR yet the vast majority of folks do not realize how quickly the future is coming or which industries will have the largest impact. Worse still, many believe their futures to be much like their pasts and yet the science, especially when it comes to ageing and AI is advancing exponentially faster than people expect.
Individuals that see the future before it is here are able to better prepare and succeed as the world changes. We discuss why and how exponential technologies will affect health, longevity and humanity. Matt’s greatest concern is that almost globally, society, politics and the cultures we exist in are limited by short-term thinking. Perhaps the best way forward with an attempt to avoid any major catastrophes is to encourage more conversations like this one. Enjoy! (more…)

Dr Kelly McGonigal is a health psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University who, using neuroscience and psychology, is dedicated to delivering practical tips and strategies to help improve the well-being of others. Outsmarting An Economist
Steven Landsburg is an acclaimed author and professor of economics who in this interview dares us to try to outsmart an economist? He wrote his new book, Can You Outsmart an Economist? to inspire and show readers how to do just that by expanding the way you think about decision making and problem-solving.
We discuss the “why” behind economics which he suggests is all about exploring the hidden why or motives behind our behaviours and decisions in daily life. He shares several puzzles from his book aimed to exercise our brain, using logic and problem-solving ability to view things from unique perspectives. It is an enjoyable and entertaining view through the lens of an economist – challenging us to think differently about the decisions we make and what we do. (more…)

I believe that is was Jordan Peterson who put it so beautifully in his book, 12 Rules For Life, “there is nothing wrong with you!”
Do you think there is something wrong with you, at times? I have certainly had these feelings. On occasions I still do. However, it couldn’t be further from the truth. We are perfectly brilliant and flawed just as we are.
Humans Are Underrated by Geoff Colvin
Written by Leigh Martinuzzi
In this book, Geoff Colvin has delivered a brilliantly assembled counter-argument to the notion that technology is taking over the human race. With the advancement of machines, AI and robots killing us in the task and skill race of the functioning world, what chance do we have? Well, as Colvin explains, it may merely be a matter of reconnecting with our roots – the fundamentals of our human nature. (more…)

The Potential of Heredity
I interview Carl Zimmer, an award-winning, celebrated New York Times columnist and science writer. The birth of genetics in the early 1900s seemed to do precisely that. A fascinating conversation. (more…)

Enough!
Written by Leigh Martinuzzi
Do you have enough?
Are you enough?
Why is enough never enough?
I wonder in the history of the universe if there has ever been anything or anyone that has been genuinely content with life. Fulfilled with everything they need or want. Grateful. Enough!
I feel regardless of who you are, where you live, your circumstance, or the hand you’ve been dealt – that there is always in some aspect of who we are or the life we live a feeling of lacking, a sense of not enough. (more…)

A Thought on not Drinking
“Drinking is an emotional thing. It joggles you out of the standardism of everyday life, out of everything being the same. It yanks you out of your body and your mind and throws you against the wall. I have the feeling that drinking is a form of suicide where you’re allowed to return to life and begin all over the next day. It’s like killing yourself, and then you’re reborn. I guess I’ve lived about ten or fifteen thousand lives now.” Charles Bukowski
I often feel like I am trying to offer others suggestions on how to live life more correctly. Honestly, that is not my wish even though some people have told me at times I comes across that way. My sincere intention is that through reflection and introspection I can share different perspectives that challenge the way others think and inspire people to create healthy lifestyles. (more…)

432 A Life With No Regrets
“If I were to look back on my life would I have regret for how I am living my life today?”
Not so long ago for me, life didn’t make much sense. I couldn’t make sense of what I was doing or where I was heading. I really started to wonder that if this is how my life would continue for the next 5, 10, 20 or even 30 what would be the point of it all.
And as I pondered this thought I knew I had to do something to change. The paths that I was on weren’t giving me a great deal to be excited about and I didn’t want to look back on my life regretting it. I may be absolutely wrong but I get the feeling that I am not alone. (more…)

What is Power?
“What then is freedom? The power to live as one wishes.” Marcus Tullius Cicero
Power is the ability to do something or act in a particular way. The reason we crave power is that it gives us a greater sense of control, authority or influence over others.
Real power isn’t in the hands of those that attempt to put themselves into such positions in life. Trying to control all the is external can be fruitless without and lead to a life without greater meaning or reward.
Power gives us certainty in an uncertain life. Like a dollar in our hands gives us comfort in the thought that we will not starve yet when it is not there, what then? The power that is found in having control over external elements in life can easily disappear when external elements shift – and they often do. (more…)

“The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it, because it’s only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles, wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.” Chuck Palahniuk
There is not one meaning of success. You define success! What does a successful existence look like to you? Go after that. Create the desires, spread the ideas and thoughts in your mind like a virus spreads disease. Allow it to obsess the mind until the belief forms the behaviours that make what you desire reality.
Understand this, there is not magic pill we can swallow to live the life we desire. This is not recipe for success. What works for one doesn’t necessarily apply to another. There are concepts in life however that we must seek to do the work within that will put us at advantage to living a successful and happy life.

Duhigg has helped me understand habits. Why they exist and how I can go about changing them. What’s more is that in understanding habits I not only get insight into my behaviours but also why others behave in certain way. This is good for leadership, influence, and business.
If you want to know why you are not getting the desired results in what you pursue understanding behaviours and habits may give you some great clues.

What makes the other person in a relationship feel greater will ultimately be the thing that takes you to the next level. This is a concept that can be applied to any relationships in life. What benefits one often will benefit the other.
In nature this is called Mutualism – the way two organisms of different species exist in a relationship in which each individual benefits from the activity of the other. More on this thought here.
What’s is life without relationships. Lonely, cold and depressing and that too is not necessarily great for our own state of being nor is it conducive to our ability to continually progress and to reach our best potential.

A freaking inspiring read. As the tittle suggest this book has the power of inquiry to spark breakthrough ideas. I read it a halfway through and had ideas pouring out of my head. When someone who inspires me mentions a great book to read I get this impulse to purchase. I use to have list of books to read but it was getting too long, enough to cover an entire year. I just read what is of interest to me in the moment or what sounds of interest and is on hands.

Hustle: The Power to Charge Your Life with Money, Meaning, and Momentum by Neil Patel, Patrick Vlaskovits & Jonas Koffler
To hustle or not to hustle, perhaps there is no in-between. I have my own thoughts on this word and am still not sure if I actually like it. It’s not the word itself but perhaps the context and manner in which it is used – I think it’s too trendy and can relay an incorrect message. I share my thoughts in this book reflection.
The term hustle to me means to work freaking hard, in a forceful way, to have greater achievement. I believe that if taken too literally it may find people living to viciously in the future and therefor missing our the benefits of being present and now. I also believe that if we enjoy what we do the term loses its meaning. When you do what you love it becomes less forceful, no matter how hard or how long the hours that you dedicate to your art. A Thought on Happiness: Found Internally Not Externally
As I grow and experience this life I gain more happiness. This may not have been the case if I didn’t take my own initiative to make significant change in my life. It is my belief that for many of us as we depart our parents bracing arms and the support of schooling life into a world of independence and adulthood, and as we do we become less happy as time passes.
I have never been happier and while I could list out a number of defining factors and reasons for this the one that infiltrates my thoughts today is that I have become more inwardly focused. This is not from a level of selfishness, quite the contrary actually. I feel as though I have become even more selfless in the focus inwardly on my own happiness.
“Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a mans growth without destroying his roots.” Frank A. Clark
Do I encourage feedback? Feedback and criticism can be hard to swallow but, it’s essential if you want to make powerful improvements and progress in life. In this episode I share my thoughts on what feedback I choose to listen to, and how I handle and respond to it.
This is critical – Why? The reality we live in is directly a creation of how we choose to interact with it. There is a great quote by Charles R. Swindoll thats states, “life is 10% of what happens and 90% of how you react to it.” As this relates to feedback I suggest how you react to feedback is more important than the feedback itself.
I value my continual self-improvement. In efforts to become my best potential in life I listen to constructive feedback and draw from it the powerful benefits it can have.

Success Is for You: Using Heart-Centered Power Principles for Lasting Abundance and Fulfillment
“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.” Bruce Lee
This is a read that I really didn’t expect. It is a different take and approach on success from what you may expect and certainly worth a read.
Dr. David R. Hawkins is a renowned physician, lecturer and researcher of consciousness, which is the state of being aware and responsive to one’s surroundings. If we can only be more aware of ourselves internally and how we respond to external happenings may then we attain more success.
Dr. Hawkins concepts seem very much common sense, including business and psychological behaviours that help propel success, however along the journey to success we loose touch with them. The idea is to gain consciousness and become aware that will then assist us in discovering true success.
The Past Is Not Your Future – The Direction You Take Is
Is where you are today truly where you desire to be? This is a question that should make our “great-questions-to-reflect-on-list.” This is a question I have asked myself many times throughout my life however in reflection I could never really answer it with any great clarity or certainty. There is reason for this. I also believe that it is a question that many of us don’t ask ourselves, and there is reason for this, too.
If we take the position that we are, right now, exactly where we want to be, one would assume that we are then truly satisfied in life. It would also indicate to me that our past has included a series of ideal moments and events that have brought us to this point. Looking inwardly this certainly is not the case for me, for I have in the past and still in the present find that I am not where I want to be. (more…)

I have been in a break up, I have burnt down a hill, I have felt guilty, dishonest, and even unfaithful. I have stolen, I have told lies, held secrets, I have told stories to make my own situation better. I have judged, I have yelled, I have screamed, I have shouted hate, abuse, and obscenities. Your Guide To When Saying Yes & No Is Appropriate
In this episode I share my thoughts on when it is appropriate to say yes and when to say no. This are two very powerful words and both have the ability to transform our lives.
One is not necessarily more favourable than the other, both have there time and there place however there is much literature and talk out there that says you need to master the art of saying yes or saying no. I believe you must master the art of saying both and this is simply by becoming more aware of when its suitable to use either one.
Enjoy my thoughts and make sure you check out my blog post here for more details. Until next time, peace, passion and purpose.
“Find yourself in the service of others.” Gandhi
If we can practice being in greater service and aim to give back as much as possible will we raise the quality of our own lives.
In this episode I share my thought on why in service to others will we benefit greatly in life and also aim to inspire and encourage you to become more aware on how you can start doing more today.
Offer great value and you will receive great value.

Your Guide to When Saying YES or NO is Appropriate
Do you say no, more than you say yes? Why? And what circumstances require the appropriate response? There is a lot of talk in the motivational field and amongst entrepreneurs about both, the power of no, and that of yes. I feel that we have an over-abundance of information available to us and this is a topic that is of no exception. There are entire books written separately for each one of these
Do I wish to further clutter this talk, not really! I wish to just shed some light on the topic from my view point to assist you in assessing when you should be saying no and when a yes, may be more appropriate.
I said yes today to waking up at 6am. I said yes to going to the gym. I sad yes to interviewing someone for my podcast. I even said yes to two cups of coffee before 1pm. I am not sure how many times I said no today but am feeling I have said yes more to the things I want to do and that I know I should. There have been a few noes. (more…)

Altered Beast: The 6 Tricks to Power Up Your Life.
Do you remember the game Altered Beast? At least I think that’s what it was called. We played it on the Sega Master system. What a freaking revolution that console was. We spent so many hours playing games, and platform games like Altered Beast were the bomb!
To be honest we probably spent too many hours on the machine but at the time, it was worth it! Being that we were kids, playing was important, as was the creative influence it had on our minds, imagination and intellect.
In Altered Beast you had to make your way through the stage as a normal man however as you ventured through the level you could power-up. It you played well you could power-up quick and stay powered-up yet at the same time if you made a mistake or fucked up you would loose your powers and momentum.
The idea was to stay powered-up so that when you got to the end “bad guy”, you would be in better position to whop his arse. The concept of powering-up yourself to better complete the game was common amongst most, at the time. In Sonic you got coins for extra lives and other speed based power-ups and in Mario Bros you ate mushrooms and grew big helping you smash your way through the levels with greater ease. (more…)

Abundance Now: Amplify Your Life & Achieve Prosperity Today by Lisa Nichols
“Abundance is when you are living a life that you love and loving the life that you are living.” Lisa Nichols
Is your cup half-full or half-empty? Abundance is a mindset and we have the power to live a life of abundance or conversely, live a life of scarcity.
As Lisa describes in this book abundance is not something available for purchase but rather something we tap into, develop, cultivate and grow.
This means we can all live rich and abundant lives but what does that really mean.
Lisa’s definition of abundance is when you are living a life that you love and loving the life that you are living.
Abundance is having a large quantity of something, anything. In regards to abundance in the context of life it relates to your prosperity, hence the subtitle of Lisa’s book.
“Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will open.”
The law of attraction states that we can attract and manifest with our thoughts all that we desire. It goes about saying the the Universe has a powerful and magnetic ability to attract similar energies. If you put into practice positive and powerful manifestation of all the you desire you can transform your reality.
A little hippie and out there and in part I share this belief. I do believe that we, using our thoughts can attract into our lives those things we desire. I also believe that we can attract into our lives things we don’t desire. The power of our thoughts and the Universe.

The Motivation Manifesto: 9 Declarations to Claim Your Personal Power by Brendon Burchard
“Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.” John F. Kennedy
If there were one book I would recommend you read to start off your year it would be this one. I ended the year reading it but could easily read it again.

The Essential Laws of Fearless Living: Find the Power to Never Feel Powerless Again By Guy Finley
“The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.”
The idea that we limit our ability to live into our full potential and to live this life without ever having accomplished all those dreams and desires we have scares me. It is a fear of mine to reach the end having this inner sense of regret. This is why I take purposeful action towards living my why and following the path which is my own journey. Tops Books of 2015: My top 10
Ok, so here it is, a little delayed but I got there. This is my 2015 top 10 book selection. Some of them are in my top 10 of all time.
Why is reading so important? Well for me its simple- I learn stuff. Sounds a little nerdy but the joy and excitement I get from learning is powerful in my life. I believe it would be powerful in anyone’s life.
It is a common behaviour among the successful as well, so it must have some credibility. Actually I heard a while back that reading a book every week is like doing a college degree every year. The rewards are huge.

Spirituality and enlightenment is often something that is seen as only available to only those “wise gurus” however the process to enlightenment is something that we can all share. The issue is trying to make sense of all the information- it can be a little overwhelming. Bring in Kirstie Ganobsik and Trina Noelle.
They write and share lessons they have learnt as well as common sense approaches and experiences, sometimes humorous, that help make our understanding of self practice of enlightenment less intimidating and more achievable. In this crazy world we live in we can all certainly benefit from these practices, tips, tricks and other methods to help live our lives with more fulfillment and peace.
In this episode we have a down to earth chat about enlightenment but if that’s word is too much to digest basically we talk about how to find your passion and purpose, and how to live life with greater peace and calmness. The ideas and thoughts we share in this discussion can benefit us all.
I really hope you enjoy today’s show and please let me know what you think. Until next time, peace, passion and purpose.

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle
“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation, but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle
The sub-tittle captures the essence of the message in this book and that is to awaken by bringing around a shift in consciousness. It is an extension upon his work from his earlier book The Power of Now. I have written a book review on this also that may be worth a read – essentially it was a spiritual insight into the benefits that can come by being present in the moment.
In this book I was captured from the start. I actually begin with the audio book but found the narration rather bland and knew that I would absorb much more if I read the book.
