The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change By Stephen Covey

Well what an amazing book and a great must read!

It’s no secret, I love reading! I have the aim of a book a week and also listen to a book every week or two using audible. I love it and I am hooked.

When someone who inspires me mentions a great book to read I get this impulse to purchase. I use to have list of books to read but it was getting too long, enough to cover an entire year. I just read what is of interest to me in the moment or what sounds of interest and is on hands.

Here is a book review I wrote a couple of years ago and have now updated into podcast form also. If you are going to read one thing today start reading this book – forget this post.

I don’t share all the books I listen to or read as sometimes I find it hard to share the value they offer but this one is a must read. I was attracted to it by my amazon recommendation and was caught by the tittle, so impulse click, it was shipped to me from the US.

Little did I know that this book has sold 15 million copies and been translated into 37 languages and to top it off is considered one of the most influential books of all time.

First published in 1989, this self-help book teaches readers about the concept of paradigm shift and presents an approach to assisting us to become more aligned with the universal principles of life and in doing so becoming more effective.

The 7 habits in order are as follows:

    1. Be proactive
    2. Begin with the end in mind
    3. Put first things first
    4. Think win-win
    5. Seek first to understand, then be understood
    6. Synergise
    7. Sharpen the saw

Each chapter covers one of each of the habits, which according to Covey are timeless and universal. They are presented in proper order and follow systematic approach to becoming more effective and each one complements the others and often interlink.

The first three focus on independence with the second three focusing on interdependence. And the final habit is founded in order to keep things energised, fresh and sustainable all which you must keep in balance to ensure a longer-term effective lifestyle.

This book is up there in my top books of all time. Many people rate the book by Napoleon Hill- Think and Grow Rich, as do I, and if you too are a fan of it you will love this one.

I usually take away ideas and inspiration from all books that I read but not as often take away tools that I can implement into my daily life to assist me in becoming more effective.

I can assure you with this book in each chapter there has been something I have taken and having implemented I am already noticing the effects that I am sure will only become more prominent from here. It’s a book that I will with out a doubt re-read, as its principles it shares are timeless.

    Thanking you Covey.
