    Thoughts on Death- A Pleasing Approach

    It is not in the fear of death that troubles us the most. You see in death itself pain is little and only short lived. It is the thought of dying and in that process which truly pains us, however maybe it should not.

    Consider the point at which you leave your body. Seneca states the pain experienced as your soul departs your body is minute because at this point it is merely sitting on the lips in preparation to depart. As easy as a feather is blown away in a strong gust of wind.

    The suffering one may experience leading up to this point, death, is in some cases worse than others. It is human nature to fear pain as we would much rather experience pleasure. The fear associated with this pain may also fear us as we think or move towards death – it is not death alone. 

    The pleasing reminder for us all is that pain is never permanent. All pain will pass. With this thought in mind may we rest more easily as we think on death.

    All pain passes and we always move onwards to a normal state, one which we are more familiar and comfortable with. The beauty in death is that once the pain passes and the soul escapes our body, pain will pass permanently. No longer will we experience any suffering or pain of any kind. That may be more pleasing as we contemplate death.

    A final thought on death. One way to reduce our fear and anxiety over such a matter is the ability to continually be aware and focus our attention on death. Like anything we think, say or do, we can so with greater ease and less fear if we constantly practice and remain doing so.

    If you were to fear public speaking your ability to overcoming it would be to learn technique, study the art, build belief, take action and in doing so you will certainly reduce any fear you may have. If you become less consistent in your attention and practice you may notice your fear will grow more intense once again.

    Learn, study, think and remain aware of death. Allow your attention to always be mindful of what this means and don’t neglect to visit the topic of death. It may be uncomforted or raise fear but it is beneficial.

    We will never know when our time will come and therefore an awareness of death is an important practice to start today. A more pleasing approach.
