Stop Living For Myself – A Lesson For Today

To live with greater purpose we first need to have our fundamental human needs meet. This may be hard for some to grasp because some of us have higher needs than others. Some of us think we need more of something in order to first start living. The truth is that for many of us we already have everything we need, we just haven’t had that realisation.

If you really want to live with more purpose you have to understand that all you need is already with you. If it is not than you first must meet those needs before you can proceed to live with more purpose.

Purpose is beyond doing something to fulfil a need. It is about doing without a condition. Think about it, if you do something with expectation for reward then you are doing it to satisfy a need. If you do it without expectation for result or reward then it is likely you are doing something with a higher level of purpose.

Keep in mind however that doing something without condition may also be wasteful if it has no purpose at all. What would be the purpose of walking across the country that you live in if you did it without reward or result.

The clarity here is that if you really want to have greater impact in this world you must start offering greater value. The best value that is offered is in service. In service to others without condition, without the need to fill your bucket of needs in life any further. Only then will you find greater purpose.

You then may choose to walk across the country you live not for any self-need but instead to raise awareness for a great cause that you are passionate about. That has more purpose and is not coming from a place of your needs. It is unconditional, it has not expectation of reward, result or punishment. You do it in service.

I could have more money, more things, greater things but what I realise is that’s not what I really desire. I do desire more freedom but for now my needs a meet. I have a life that is well above half the worlds population and for that I am grateful. For now I wish to find more purpose in what I do – doing things without condition.

We all can live in greater service. We all have something truly unique and of great value to offer others. Find it, live it, breathe it!
