  • The Invincible Brain: Ageing, Neuroplasticity & Brain Fitness

In this episode of The Hidden Why, I sit down with Dr. Majid Fotuhi, neurologist, neuroscientist, author, and one of the world’s leading experts on memory, brain vitality, and successful aging.

We explore how lifestyle choices can literally reshape the brain, reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s, and help us stay sharp as we age. Dr. Fotuhi shares the science behind his Brain Fitness Program, the power of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis, and the five key pillars we can all use to protect and improve brain health.

This is an empowering conversation about aging well, taking responsibility for our brain fitness, and understanding that cognitive decline is not always inevitable.

Dr. Fotuhi’s journey into neuroscience, memory, and Alzheimer’s research discusses how brain aging is influenced not only by genetics but also by lifestyle choices. Dr. Fotuhi explains how the brain has the remarkable ability to grow new neurons and improve its structure at any age through intentional daily habits. The conversation dives into the five pillars of brain health: exercise, quality sleep, optimal nutrition, stress reduction, and brain training.

We discuss how exercise helps grow the hippocampus, the brain’s memory center, and why deep sleep acts as a natural detox system for the brain. Dr. Fotuhi also shares insights into the links between inflammation, poor blood flow, amyloid buildup, and the increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

The episode explores how chronic stress and elevated cortisol levels can damage memory over time, while cognitive challenge, curiosity, and continuous learning help keep the brain resilient and adaptable. Finally, we touch on the hidden risks of relying too heavily on technology and AI, and why maintaining active thinking and mental engagement is essential for long-term brain health.
