  • Who controls you?

We are all controlled in some way by something. Control is all about influencing our behaviour, actions, events, and beliefs and in doing so we are more easily managed.

You ever feel like you’re without control? I do.

So many things in my life consume me and control my destiny. I feel sometimes it’s the smallest things that seem to influence me the greatest. If I could just let go, free myself from their shackles my life could be totally different. What about you?

My thought is that if you just think about your day and assess how much of the day do you actually own. If you’re reading this in the morning, think about the experiences and the journey that is ahead of you for the day.

Perhaps you’re at the end of the day about to call it in, how’s your day been controlled today, has it been controlled?

The most fascinating part to me is that we all have choice. Some times we claim not to have choice however for everything that exists, although perhaps reality is all just perception, I believe we decide.

For many of us the very start to the day is controlled by our alarm. How many of us claim that we wake by our natural alarm clock, sunlight or simply by our passion and excitement of a new day.

Those that wake simply by their passion most likely have more control in their lives that those that wake without, I would suggest.

We are controlled by the news we watch in the morning, the ads that flicker in the breaks. We are determined to be more free with technology however today it is easier than ever to be controlled by push notifications, emails and what others may think of our late night Facebook post or tweet. Even when we haven’t posted something we feel hooked and just check-in.

The job that we do and the man that we work for control us. Controlled by their dreams and not our own.

Influenced by addictions that are simply used as an escape from what already controls us yet in doing so become a slave to those addictions.

Leaders have more control over others than the ones that follow. We are all and can all be leaders in some way in our lives. How to be a good leader? Provide value.

When you are laying in the coffin or sitting in a urn as ashes and bone what will people be taking about, how will they remember you? Write it down.

They may not remember your boss or the company you worked for. They may not remember you for the cash in your bank account although I am sure some relatives may.

They will remember you for the way you made them feel. They will appreciate and remember they way you choose to live your life. The experiences you had and shared.

They will remember you by the value you gave to the world. The legacy you left behind. What is your legacy?

Control doesn’t allow you the ability to give great value to the world, only when you are in control is this possible. Only when you are in control can you really live a life full with passion and purpose?

I have decided I am going to take more control.

I am hooked more now above all else, over all my addictions, over my career, over my family, over everything in my life, on learning and self-improvement.

I still do the other things but developing my self, as selfish as this may sound, has taken me on a trip of my lifetime. It’s exhilarating, exciting, unknown, uncomfortable, passionate, and extremely refreshing. It’s my new buzz.

Took me about 30 years but here I am.

In doing this I am slowly taking back more control. This addiction is helping me overcome all that controls me; all that holds me back and is propelling me forward.

This is leading me to find and discover new passions. I am able to dream even bigger. My creative thought is pumping harder then ever before. And I am ready to soak up every moment in this life and leave my mark.

Start taking control of your life today. Don’t be fooled and don’t be consumed by all that consumes you. Cut the cords from the puppet master and become your own master in life.

Plan to win and in turn offer value to everyone around you to allow him or her to win, too.
