Dare to Disagree – Challenge Thought, Beliefs & Behaviours
“For good ideas and true innovation, you need human interaction, conflict, argument, debate.” Margaret Heffernan
Are we all “yes” men? Do we agree with almost everything? The news we watch, the stories we hear from friends, the new direction our company is taking, the images we see, the lives we perceive people live, the politicians, our thoughts, conditioned perspectives, and beliefs. What happens if we challenged ourselves more to disagree?
If we agree with everything we have been told, are told and all that we think, say and do where is the room for progress? When we challenge the status quo, when we disagree with common thought, and even when we find fault or error in our actions that we are convinced is right, then do we open the doors of opportunity that will provide a substantial increase in potential growth.
To disagree with a belief or behavior especially as to the perceived benefits or value that they carry we will either strengthen them or destroy them. It’s about opening the doors to counter or disagreeing evidence.
It’s easy to look for evidence to support what we – such evidence supports our position. However, if we find evidence that challenges us will this not force us to do further research and find more evidence to support our perspectives? And when we can’t find supporting evidence that’s likely positive for the prospects of our life. We can let go of the unnecessary and that which leads us falsely forward in life.
Allow me to explore this thought with you further in this episode.
