Positively Resilient: 5 1/2 Secrets to Beat Stress, Overcome Obstacles, and Defeat Anxiety by Doug Hensch

Resilient; a person able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions.

What an interesting read and I believe very relative to all of us. Think about it. When was the last time you faced a difficult situation and despite all the happenings you were able to spring back?

Think of a sponge placed in a pool of water overcome by the heaviness of the water it soaks up and suddenly is unable to soak up any more. Like life at times, pressured and saturated by conflict we can become so weighed down that it feels almost impossible that we will dry out and get back on track. I am sure this is the reality for many souls. What if you could learn the secrets of not only being resilient to absorbing the weight of the world but also the skills and ability to squeeze it out. How would that make your life better?

Resilience is what the successful possess. They have this ability to bounce back. At times it seems like they are unbreakable or at leas that they have all the luck in the world but the truth is that they have just learnt how to fight. In a boxing ring there is only one winner but in life we can all be winners. The thing is that the guy that doesn’t win on the night goes on to win later.

In this book Doug shares the 5 ½ secrets to being positively resilient. I have interviewed him sense and asked why there are indeed 5 and a half. He explained that they are not the only way to be more resilient but they are certainly 5.5 ways he knows that work. This is a part of the reason why I loved this book as Doug had a no bullshit approach.

The fact is that not one thing will work for everyone, there is not one way that will make us all more resilient but there are certainly consistencies. He has a balanced approach to much of what he shares. For example, the idea that positively works is great but having a negative thought process to life is also beneficial. Just like not all optimists win in life having a pessimistic view on the world can provide some useful insights.

If I were human, and thankfully I am, I would approach things with an open mind and consider all options. I accept that both the dark side and the bright side of things have their place. This allows me to place less resistance on the counter aspects of life and proceed, make better decisions that I feel will take me closer to the ideal state that I desire.

If you consider yourself resilient you will appreciate this read. If you find yourself crumbling often in times of adversity or pressure you will deeply benefit from the insight shared in this read, Positively Resilient.
