“A body in motion wants to stay in motion a body at rest wants to stay in rest, be the body in motion.”
What does living life with passion and purpose mean?
The purpose of life to quote the Dalia Lama is to be happy. So living your life with passion and purpose is to serve that goal. Do something that makes you happy and you inevitably make the world a greater place.
Key Take Outs.
· Start with a problem not an idea. We can all come up with great ideas and think that people will want them but if they don’t have the need it just may not work. First start with the problem and then find the idea or solution for this.
· Try, Explore, Fail, and Discover. This is really the how to finding you why and your reason here. You must be open to trying new things, exploring opportunities, failing and learning those lessons and you will discover what fits and what drive you.
· Be a body in motion. A body in motion wants to stay in motion and a body in rest wants to stay in rest. This is one of Newton’s laws. For us it simple means don’t sit on the couch expecting things to come, start take action and once you do you will likely be unable to stop.
· Know thyself. When exploring life and trying new things its really important that you know yourself because when you really know what’s right for you, you will be able to make better decisions on where next to step. If you don’t you may just be doing things for wrong reasons and also make excuses when things are not working out.
· Ego vs. truth. We all have ego and for most of us this directs much of what we do. But try understand the truth behind the ego. To be famous, to be rich, to have nice things, to be noticed for something you do can all stroke our ego but what is the real purpose behind it all. Understand this purpose and you may realise that all those ego satisfiers are not cracked up to what you thought.
· Do great things in the moment. Being sad, angry or even depressed about the past or anxious, nervous or worried about the future is a great way to step out of all that is happening in the moment and this is all the truly matters. When you are truly living in the present you will be more purposeful in all that you do. Yesterday has happened and tomorrow will come.
· Speed-reading, just read. Learn to speed read for sure, definitely something that would allow me to absorb a great deal more but most importantly just read and get in the habit of reading more. Reading is something that all successful people in whatever field do a lot of.
· Who are you and what are you doing? Move towards your values not away. Question everything you do and how it all relates to your values. If you really question what you are doing right now is it something that is moving you’re towards what you value, your goals and longer-term vision? Question everything and the answers will come.
· Sleep, energy & success. Sleep is integral to our energy, to our ability to perform, be productive, our memory, health and moods. Are you getting enough? There are also great sleep hacks to allow you do operate better like sleeping in 1.5 hour intervals and napping.
· 3 Steps to improving learning by memory improvement
1. Recognise your brain is subject the picture superiority effect. We thrive on visual aid when it comes to learning so try visualize more even when visual aids don’t exist.
2. Reading not using sub-vocalisation, which is essentially the act to vocalise each word as we read. To read where words are symbols helps us to absorb more information at a greater rate.
3. Understand how the memory works for long-term memory. What is relevant and what is not and how to trick your brain to store that information by creating relevant connections.
What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
