The School of Greatness Podcast with Lewis Howes
Written by Leigh Martinuzzi
Lewis Howes has a podcast that sits in the top 100 podcasts on iTunes. He is a lifestyle entrepreneur with a story that takes you on a journey from broken places to success. Lewis has a couple of New York Times best-selling books and a repertoire of celebrity endorsements. I don’t see eye to eye with everything he says and does, but I deeply respect the work he’s doing.
If you want to read his full story check out his About Page here. I do appreciate how Lewis openly shares many aspects of his past with his guests. As a child, he was sexually abused, he always felt left out growing up, and despite significant achievements in the sporting arena, it all came crashing down after an injury. He found himself broke with twenty dollars to his name sleeping on his sister’s couch.
Determined and always holding on to big dreams that someday he would create a successful life, Lewis’s undeniable commitment and compassion for people has taken him to new heights. He has turned his dreams into a reality, and I would safely suggest he now can live the life he desires.
From an external perspective we can only see a limited view, however, after listening to many podcasts by Lewis and having heard him speak on many other occasions, I sense his genuine nature. Beyond that, he has some kick-ass guests on his show that are always fascinating to listen.
Howes, not having a highly academic background instead brings his compassion and curiosity to each interview. One thing I admire is his ability to truly connect with his guests and yet without saying very much. It comes across that he is an incredible listener with an ability to draw out insightful, educational and inspiring stories from the guests he has on.
The variety of guests are endless, now having interviewed the very top entrepreneurs and business minds on the planet. Lewis connects with influential celebrities, high-performing athletes, academics and spiritual leaders. I think what stands out in his episodes is that fact that most of his interviews are recorded in his home studio. It brings a deeper connection to the audio.
He can be a little bit over the top for me at times, as can the guests he has on, but overall, it’s a format that I enjoy tunning into from time to time. with shows averaging an hour in length and often with a clear intent or direction, I can get a pretty good idea if it’s a show I wish to spend tune in to.
Lewis Howes states that the goal of the School of Greatness is to share inspiring stories from the most brilliant people he can find to help others find out what makes great people great. I believe Lewis has accomplished this with his show.
Humanity and its progress thrive on storytelling and sharing. If we can take a little snippet away that somehow enhances the quality of our lives, isn’t that powerful? Storytelling has vanished as our culture has become too busy and less focused on family, community and connection. Podcasts like Lewis help bring the authentic conversations back into our everyday lives.
