The Minimalist have a highly rated podcast, have gone on extensive speaking tours to promote their work and have a couple best-selling books. I have not yet listened to their podcast or read their work until this book and I am glad I started here. This audio book has condensed years of their work into an enjoyable format that saves me a bundle of time. I good way to encourage a minimalist lifestyle.

If you are a fan of The Hidden Why and the messages and thoughts I share you will likely resonate brilliantly with these boys. Life doesn’t need to be complex or complicated but we and society seem to have created a belief that it does. The Minimalist help to change this.

Call it what you will this lifestyle is not all about sacrifices and living on your bare bones but rather it’s about simplification. Taking away the complexity in life. Remove that which is not necessary. Looking at your life for what it truly important, what truly matters and what you really need. Not living life by pacified cravings, always wanting more of what you don’t have but being content with all that you do have, all that you need.

Joshua and Ryan have written this essays beautifully and from the heart. Each essay inspires. It does this by giving examples, context, facts in an entertaining format that highlights the bull shit of the system we live in. They cut through it and give thoughts and ideas about how we can, by living a minimalist lifestyle, live with greater freedom, fulfilment and happiness. A shared message of The Hidden Why.

They do not for a moment believe that how they approach a minimalist lifestyle is a suitable model for everyone. While they make suggestions there is not one rule that fits us all. This isn’t to say that a minimalist lifestyle isn’t for everyone but rather how each of us might approach it.

As it relates to consumption think about what you really need. You may be surprised. Most of us over consume as a way to drown out our depression or dissatisfaction with the kind of life we live.

As it relates to overwhelm and effectiveness most of us fill our schedules up with crap and unnecessary appointments and tasks as a way to chase forward in life. Perhaps a method to please our ego, fit into society by the need of status, or just overly obsessed with keeping up with the Jones’s – a sure way to disappointed in life is when you consistently compare and try mimic the lives of others.

This book will keep you entertained from start to finish – it did with me. They never tell you to do something specifically they simply share thought and inspiration to help you reflect and adopt your own minimalist lifestyle.

I went from a life of chase, a life of consuming, a life of never being satisfied and all because I was doing more, consuming more, thinking more than was essential. I am not perfect and don’t ever claim that I will be but life feels more real than it ever has much thanks to changing myself in similar ways as The Minimalists have described in their book. How can it assist you in life? Have a listen!
