“You can buy success, you have to pay the rent everyday.” Kevin Clayson

Kevin Clayson describes himself as a pretty simple fellow yet when you listen to this episode you may think otherwise. He comes across with so much energy it is contagious. I found myself talking faster and pumped-up as if I just had 8 red bulls myself, which he jokingly says he had prior to this interview.

He reveals many great tips and tricks and certainly in our chat we uncover useful ideas and inspiration for all of us on our journey. We also discuss his book, FLIPing the Gratitude Switch, which is something he has worked on over the last few years. Speaking in front of many people sharing this information. The FLIP philosophy is awesome!

His philosophy on how to be grateful daily goes well beyond just thinking about those things that you perhaps believe you should be grateful about, but instead putting some strategy behind it. The compound effect of this approach can have dramatic positive change in your life and makes this episode a must listen.

    Key Take Outs

    • Dreams in the future. It is so important to dream and dream big remembering that all the past, present and future successful people all dream big.  Your dreams will always remain in the future until you take one step towards them. Take that one step.

    • We all have gifts. This is something inside all of us and we all at some point will discover it but the question is about how to express it. When you take hold of opportunities and try as many things as you can you will discover your gift and once you do the next step is learn how you can express it. This may be by physical product, service, writing, speaking you name it, find what fits with you.

    • Crack open the book! To begin the process of personal development you need to just start and a large part of that is to just crack open that first book. Reading will put rocket fuel in your tank and propel you on your journey of success.

    • Fear not the long road instead just do something. When we attempt to follow our dreams and look towards our goals don’t try rush to the end, this will lead to burn out. Equally do not be deterred from the challenge or fear the long road just take it one step at a time.

    • Taking the small steps. Focus on each of the small steps along the way and don’t get ahead of yourself. What can you be doing right now that is important in getting you that little bit closer to the ultimate goal?

    • FLIP Philosophy, why Gratitude’s are important. The status que of how we practice being grateful will change with Kevin’s four steps. The power of this technique will allow you to overcome frustrations along your journey and each time you do you will power up with hits of dopamine each time until the next frustration. Have a positive experience at each moment will change how you interact with the world and not only will it become easier but it will give you the ability to become aware and conscious of solutions.

    • Here are the four steps of FLIPping the Gratitude Switch.
    1. Find the frustration.
    2. Look for what’s awesome.
    3. Initiate gratitude- activate it by speaking it aloud.
    4. Power-Up with Gratifuel.

    His interpretation of success

In order to achieve success it’s got to be a minute by minute pursuit. In each moment you are doing something to move you closer to whatever goal it is you wish to achieve.

Someone is successful ultimately by how many people you serve and how abundantly you serve them.

    Quote

“Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it” Viktor E. Frankl
